St Mark's Church, Old Marylebone Road, London NW1
The church was built as a chapel of ease in the early 1870s; the architect was Sir Arthur Blomfield. The plan is straightforward
and attractive, consisting of a nave and aisles with a chancel and a small chapel in the north-east corner. Externally, the building has a modest character, being built of brick with stone dressings to doors and windows. The most imposing aspect is the tower, also built of red brick and
stone
. This tower makes a considerable impact on the townscape of the Old Marylebone Road, which is otherwise undistinguished.![]() Internally, the church has been reordered to provide a single flexible space which is available to other groups, and is particularly suitable for musical events. Complete internal redecoration was carried out a few years ago.
