QUENTIN PICKARD,

Career Summary
I obtained my degree in architectural studies in 1970 (Newcastle University) and qualified as an architect in 1976; I have been a member of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) ever since. I became a member of the Institute of Management in 1982, and an architect Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC) in 1999. 

After working in several local authorities and private practices, I established a practice with David Palmer in 1978. David subsequently decided to become a Methodist minister, and from 1987 to 1993 I was a director of Triforum Chartered Architects Limited. Since 1993 I have been a sole practitioner, with my own practice.

Specialist Areas
Restoration and re-ordering of church buildings. Conservation and refurbishment.
Building surveys and reports. Contract administration.

Inspecting Architect
I am the Inspecting Architect for several Anglican churches: see churches page

Methodist Church 
I have prepared several reports for both churches and manses for the Methodist Church (London New River Circuit).

Academic Posts
For several years (1991 to 1997) I was a part-time lecturer at South Bank University, teaching mainly to building surveying and construction management students. Subjects taught included building conservation, architectural design, history of architecture, contract practice and administration.

I have also taught at several other universities and colleges. In 1999 I prepared a unit on conservation & archaeology for a proposed MA in Construction History at South Bank University.

Since 1995, I have taught the 'contracts' unit on the professional practice course at the Architectural Association, Bedford Square.

Publications
I am joint author, together with several other architects and quantity surveyors, of three books on contract practice and administration: Pre-contract Practice (8th edition); Contract Administration for the Building Team (7th edition); Tenders and Contracts for Building (3rd edition).

I have also been commissioned by Blackwell Science Ltd to prepare a substantially new edition of a standard architects' reference work, to be published in 2002.
I have written occasional short articles in the technical press, and have taken part in several brief radio discussions concerning conservation topics.
