Woodwork

St Martin's church has a good deal of oak timberwork as part of the original design by E B Lamb. It was felt appropriate to continue this material as part of the new design scheme.

A new oak screen was designed in American oak, to provide protection to the large opening in the tower. Previously the tower opening was a rather windswept area which also suffered from pigeons and general debris. Installing the screen enabled this area to be used as a welcoming, and clean, entrance to the church.

The glazing also enables visitors to glimpse something of the interior without problems of security.
The carved motif immediately above the double doors echoes some of the internal details.

The pair of double doors lead from the tower into the body of the church, and were also made from American oak.
